Middle schools start way too early I know and am writing from my personal experience. I have three main reasons why and I will explain to give some insight and hopefully make any one reading take this into consideration.
If schools started later kids could get better breakfasts because they could spend more time making brain food in stead of throwing together a bowl of lucky charms and not even being able to finish that because of the outrageously early time that school starts. Kids should be getting better nutrition for the most important meal of the day!
Next, we will be able to focus better during the school day because we won’t be as tired. And if we don’t get as distracted our work will be more proficient, turned in on time more often, and ultimately we will get better grades. A survey was taken in May of 2007 from students that go to a high school in Philadelphia which starts at a similar time to RHMS. It confirmed that teens aren’t getting enough sleep. 78 % said it was difficult to get up in the morning, only 16 % said that they regularly got enough sleep, 70% said they thought their grades would improve if they had more sleep, and 90% said they thought their academic performance would improve.
And the last reason that schools should start earlier is because kids will not feel as rushed in the morning to get all our stuff together and that means less forgetting homework.
Clearly schools should start earlier. I hope that that as I said before gave you some insight and made you take this matter into consideration. I also hope you can take this seriously as well and see the statistics.
